Gary Burr
Gary Burr was born in Meriden, Connecticut. He is a musician and songwriter, mostly known for his tremendous hits recorded by Country Music artists. Gary Burr began his career as a member of the group Pure Prairie League from 1982-85, taking over after Vince Gill's departure from the group. While touring with the Pure Prairie League, Gary began to send songs to Nashville, in hopes that other artists would take interest in some of his music. One song he sent, “Loves Been a Little Bit Hard on Me,” which became a smash hit, performed by Juice Newton in 1982. Gary Burr later moved to Nashville to become one of the most-respected songwriters there, securing hits for an array of Country Music artists (and a few Pop & Rock artists) and also works as a producer. Gary Burr has produced a number of songs and albums, those including the Disney Records album, “The Best of Country Sing the Best of Disney,” and Olivia Newton-John’s, “Back With a Heart.” As a teenager, Gary Burr was active in high school soccer. During a soccer match, Gary broke his leg and from that point, to pass time, Gary picked up the guitar. Not long after, he formed a band and began working on his songwriting skills. After writing about thirteen songs, he sent out all the songs to various recording companies. He received 12 rejections, but the 13th led to a recording contract. Gary Burr spent many years in Connecticut, crafting his songwriting skills and raising a family. In 1989, Gary Burr moved to Nashville, Tennessee to sign with MCA Publishing. He became one of Nashville’s most influential and prominent songwriters. In 1994, Gary Burr was named Songwriter of the Year by Billboard magazine and the Nashville Songwriters Association International. He won the same award in 1995 from ASCAP. On October 16th 2005, Gary Burr was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. |
